Chanequa Cameron is a mother, mentor, educator, speaker and curriculum developer. She currently works as an Ontario Certified Teacher in a First Nation community in northwestern Ontario, and provides consulting services to support curriculum development through her own initiative Chany Consult. Since 2006, Chanequa set out on a quest to understand healthy child development, best practices in the early years and eventually how Canada’s colonial past permeates in the education sector. Equipped with a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Bachelor of Child Development, Master of Arts in Early Childhood Studies and Master of Teaching, Chanequa utilizes her education to both fuel and inform her advocacy work. She has worked hard to build her capacity to contribute to knowledge sharing, and is developing curriculum for educators to support their understanding of pedagogy, anti-racist principles and the necessity for culturally relevant and responsive programming. Chanequa is working actively to dismantle colonial histories infringing on equitable access to quality education, and her current interests surround social constructs of race, trauma-informed care and space for social justice in the classroom.
